Sponsored by the Houston Symphony League and the Houston Symphony’s Young Associates Council

The goal is to collect and then distribute books to children throughout the Greater Houston Area that might help inspire them to listen to or play music. A portion of the books will be distributed through the Houston Symphony Community Engagement initiatives such as school programs and In Harmony. In Harmony is a community-based afterschool music program led by the Houston Symphony in partnership with AFA and local community organizations.

The rest of the books will be handed over and distributed through the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation and the ROPES program with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The ROPES program provides books to children in low-income neighborhoods in the Greater Houston Area.

INSTRUCTIONS:

For the Amazon gift wish list, once you purchase the books, they will automatically be sent to one of our committee members, so you don’t have to bring them to any events for your convenience.

For the rest of the list, please bring them to Houston Symphony League and Young Associates Council events or contact one of the Committee members. There should be someone at each event to which you can give the books.

You can purchase as many books as you would like.

ADDITIONALLY:

More books will be added as we review our long list to get approval with the guidelines that the Symphony Education and Community Engagement staff have given the Committee. So periodically check back and look for notices in the newsletters.

Thank you for helping with the important activity to not only support the Symphony’s Community Engagement initiatives for music education but the children who will be the recipients of these books throughout the Greater Houston area. May the books educate and inspire them.
