For nearly 90 years, the Houston Symphony League has been a source of significant support for the Houston Symphony and for the cultural and educational enrichment of our city. Founded in 1937 as the Women’s Committee of the Houston Symphony Society with Miss Ima Hogg as the first President, the organization was formed with the purpose of three functions for the Houston Symphony: raising funds for the orchestra’s support by means of special projects; devoting many volunteer hours to the orchestra’s expanding education and community engagement activities; and helping promote ticket and subscription sales.
The Houston Symphony League has evolved into an organization of more than 400 men and women who provide critical support to the Houston Symphony. League members have raised funds to purchase a Steinway piano and a harp for the orchestra, served as ushers at school concerts every year since 1955 while serving around 50,000 students each year, contributed to the purchasing and refurbishing of instrument for the Instrument Petting Zoo, and served as docents to enhance the concert experience of children attending concerts since 1977.
